"During chaos, understanding the usefulness of power
is the greatest strength
."

"It's not that there is no truth in certain things,
but what is said about them is not
."

This book is about manipulation and total control. Ursula Lawrence is involved with a secret organisation that takes influential people into its midst. What this organisation offers is far too great a gift to live without. Those to whom Ursula's allegiance is unquestionable are planning to emerge on an international scale. Though Ursula can harness unconventional 'dark' powers and wisdom, she knows little of the true intentions and politic behind The Grand Masters
.

There is Beatrice, who appears from an enemy, eager to experience. Because of the intensity and depth of the ensuing relationship, the secret did appear to have overcome the boundary. Had it really though?

This book has serious, amusing and extremely passionate sides. It takes the reader infinitely further than the ordinary stuff of life and introduces highly remarkable places, seductive people and unbelievable events. Ursula's involvement with 'the dark arts' and with instigators of espionage, brings to the fore much that begs further association. One is left with the question: 'Is there really people like they in the world and who are doing these things?'

Of course there are.

Scenario: Ursula was cheated on by William, an Initiate in The Order.
She has told The Grand Master about the affair and also about a note from a stranger.

"Regarding the William Waterhouse issue."
"Yes?" she said. This was the subject she'd come here to discuss. "You won't be seeing him again. The person who gave you the note is an ex FSB agent, now working for the CIA and who we've been manouvering. This is why William was used. We have sufficient intelligence data to be certain of the level of fascination now accrued in you and which, as far as we're concerned, can become workable. This is where you come in, my dear girl. He'll contact you again and it's important you only listen to the overture, rather than divulge, any knowledge. Make 'them' feel that you're personally where they want you to be. They'll be both subtle and convincing in their strategies. When this point is reached, we'll move on from there. This is all you need to know for now.....

Scenario: Inner turmoil.

The question whether she could trust The Grand Master was foremost in her mind. Why had this dreadful questioning of his integrity emerged now? It left her feeling very uncomfortable. She wanted him to be her unwavering confidant. Was he setting her up in the way he had William? Was questionable trust all this was about? Perhaps it was about more than what trust could be?. It was to do with what she really was and was very capable of doing. The Master's maneuverings were intended and precise. It was clear to her now that what had happened earlier had been arranged. The electric shock meant to be given her. Was he orchestrating her alienation from his organisation, so she'd soften toward whomever it was that was going to approach her?.....

Scenario: Ursula is heading to The Mall, but never arrives at her destination.

She was ready to hit the road. The Big B was her black, Satanic chariot, taking her to the boutiques of Dolce and Gabbana, Alfred Dunhill and Nino Cerruti. She was wearing a black trouser suit made of silk and wool. It wasn't part of her more special wardrobe, but the pin she was wearing certainly was. Its design was of old Scottish agate, silver with more recent rubies and sapphires that she'd had specially fitted. Many of her clothes were bespoke, created for her by a tailor in Sheffield. There's nothing quite like sitting on those high stools in their little fabric room and sifting through books of different weaves. Old Brian had a special mannikin made of her shape and a continuous order for suits, jackets, skirts and trousers. All black, of course. All the best that money could buy. Around her neck hung the gold pentagram that she always wore. Her black silk gloves displayed the same inverted symbol, but with a Baphomet image in the centre. She appeared stunning.....

Scenario: Enter Beatrice.

Ursula was approving of the woman's on-the-face-of-it lack of conviction. To anyone normal (which Ursula certainly wasn't) it would have been difficult to tell where this woman was from. The flavour of her voice as it had been mixing with the night air would have made for difficuly in so doing. However, Ursula knew from a very superficial entering of the woman's thoughts that she was Russian born, but had lived in the USA for many years. She was multi-lingual. Her intentions during these moments, were extremely manipulative. She was warm toward the wealthy girl whom she'd been determined to stop along this lonely road.

Ursula reached for her black lipstick. It was important she present herself well. She traced a thin line around her lips and then blew a kiss to Beatrice, the driver of the white Mercedes. It was a kiss laden with all of what made being here so very fascinating, so very dangerous and so very, very manipulative. No scruple, nor dogma stood a chance against the professional liar. It was one of the most powerful weapons, making the ultimate embrace, the mystery.

A note by Anthony Christie, who produced the above.

When I read this book, I thought it beautifully well presented. The complexity, even surreality at times made into a deep, sensitively painted vista I wanted to walk into and remain. Absolutely brilliant!
