Introduction by Anthony Christie. London.
A Short Period in the Life of Benjamin Trilling
(The Book of Death), is the culmination of an attempt to create the
most supernaturally disturbing insights of all time. The novel is set
in Eighteenth Century rural England, and as to be expected, is written
in the complexion reflecting of a person's mind living during this
period...
Benjamin Trilling is a young and newly qualified
physician. Benjamin also shares his father's calling in that he is very
devout and in fact, had almost followed in his father's footsteps and
become a clergyman of the Lutheran church. Hence, Benjamin's
inclination to help those in need in a direct way. This being, through
the science of medicine which, through helping to make good physical
ills, would also open the door for requisite 'spiritual embracing.'
Unknown to Benjamin, he is himself destined to be embraced, but not by
whom he wants nor expects...
Benjamin has made a decision to take employment in an infamous asylum, Lamptonville Retreat for The Insane.
Therein, to apply his spiritually imbued medicine to those in the most
direst of all needs. He believes that he can touch these unfortunates
in novel ways and will encourage their minds and bodies toward health.
He was absolutely wrong...
Benjamin's sensibilities come under the most bestial of attacks because Lamptonville, he immediately learns, is a place of utter abomination, a descent into the bowels of Hell, itself...
It
is nearing the close of his first week and while attending in one of
the chambers that Benjamin encounters a certain female inmate. Her name
is, Amon...
Benjamin becomes more disturbed because Amon,
although filthy, emaciated and chained to a wall, is very beautiful.
She gives Benjamin gifts, a broken talisman, a ring and a large white
feather. A swan's feather...

A brief glance inside the book, A Short Period in the Life of Benjamin Trilling
(The Book of Death)(Please note that the book's subject does not reflect the character of the author nor that of Callassa Media Company in any way. It is a marketable, fictional document!).
Scene:
In the church at Maryminster, Benjamin is facing Lucifer. The invisible
wraith has domiciled in the dead body of Amon. Benjamin, absolutely
terrified, is being held still, before the altar.
HEARKEN THEE.......
***
The
church door began opening and closing. Banging itself with such a force
that the very church began trembling. A large object fell down and
directly before Benjamin's view. On moving his eyes, he saw that it was
a dead swan. Its neck had been tied in a knot.
"Haar. Haar. Haar. Haar. Dost I cause thee fear?. I, be curdling worms in thy flesh an thy blood. I be not merely the hatred humans feel. I am prickle of all contagion. Haar. Haar. Haar...THEY THINK ANGELS ART O GOD, AN GOD BE GOOD. BUT GOD, BE I, I, I, I.
NE'ER DOUBT.
GOD BE I, I, I, I,
I.
***
Benjamin
felt freed of the immobilising restraint. Immediately, he clambered
backwards and took to running wildly, stumbling along the aisle and
through the open door.
"AAAARRRHHHH." Benjamin's scream was
beyond mere agony, beyond his already massacred senses. Hanging from
the entry was Amon's body and he had almost run into her. She was
choking and gaping at him, her bulging eyes contained...
***
Without
forethought, Benjamin reached toward her, but she was moved away in the
violent manner he'd been moved in the church. She was choking and blood
was running in tumult from one corner of her gaping mouth. Suddenly her
face became exaggerated with expressions and she began to screech with
laughter. With a loud crack her neck was broken, yet she carried on the
laughter and spitting blood at Benjamin...
NE'ER FORGET THAT I, BE FATHER.
I, BE THE
GHOST
***
With
the roaring of Amon's voice in his ears, Benjamin had hurtled from
this, most sickest of scenes. With his mind in utter turmoil, he yanked
Tertullian free and mounted, only to fall from the horse. When mounted
again, he set off at a gallop without any heed of direction nor
destination...

There
are scenes in this book that will bother and keep on bothering the most
hardened person. I know from experience! To say further and equally,
that it's a transcending love story, would be understatement. Anthony
