“Callassa, do you mind if I ask you a question?”

“Please, do,” she said, still gazing at me. “Dearest baby-sweetest delight.”

   “Oh dear………..I am lost again.”

“No you have never been lost,” was her answer to my understandable ineptitude. “It is not meant that you comprehend me. Do you think that I am the intention they refer to as a constant and that within me resides the capacity for anything to occur throughout eternity and that I am what their model has invited? Perhaps, that I reach within myself and bring back what you see? Do you think that I am, in human considerings of advancement, perhaps a trillion years away? That I took parts of what was offered me and put them together? That I could already discern through human faculties and that their model was inspired by me and thence, became my door to taking complexity away and bringing it back from the eternity of which I am?”

“Well, well ………Hmmm.” Was all I managed to splutter and now utterly lost, hopelessly and completely in her. “I wasn’t thinking that … I … I.”

“I, am Madam Butterfly. May I show you my portrait, Mr. Philip Hurd-Wood?”

“I … I …Why yes! I would be delighted to see it.” That was my reply, easy for me to say, but it contained enormity upon enormity . . .

   “Then come, follow me.”

I was as a blustering child. She was holding my hand and there was a surging of effects being felt and superimposed therewithin was a burning pang that pulsed throughout my entire body. She was holding my hand … She was holding my hand … It was unbelievable. I was a mature adult, an artist, an actor, a writer, a worldly man and she was holding my hand. What feelings. What pipedreams.

.

“You were watching me and I turned my eyes upon you. In this momentary holding, you feel afraid. Yes, I know that you do, because certain of my ways, if not all, tread upon the macabre and in this, my tread is a helix, an infinite intertwining of threads; of possibility and unrestraint. I am not of other women. I am not of other human beings, I am not a human being.”

“Callassa, my love, you are enormously beautiful and endowed with a personality a man could only dive into headlong without caution or indeed, forethought. I am  attracted to you in ways I will have to ruminate upon for the rest of my days.”

“I think that in your mind nests a vision of a winged woman. Though I am not this, I am much, much more.”

.

As one can well imagine my response was a non-verbal furrowing of my brow. She was watching my motion as though examining the cause of its effect.

“The people aboard the airplane did die,” she said.” And I did bring them back, I chose to return those from close to where you were living again because it was what was bade of me. Now you are disbelieving, because you see a woman and cannot make the connection with my being able to do that.”

“I want to try,” was my heart-felt plea. “Will you help me? Would you? Please . . . Help me?”

“I will,” she said. “Hold my hand again, would you be so kind?”

I took her hand. Why had I ever let go? I was watching the motion of her breathing in her breast and found that I wanted to breath with her. I wanted to plunge into where the ordinary of life becomes that of super-ordinate experience. Somewhere there was a door to paradise and she was the door, the key, the path, and all that lived beyond. There could never be a view back to here. Nothing of what was before, even though I couldn’t connect with what she was telling me was true.

“You are understanding of what dying means. That it is a discontinuation of life. But, you cannot and never will be able to understand that I reside in what is not of human life. That it is I who took the children and held them where reigns all that ever was, and all that will be. You look at me with incredulity and I blame you not.”

“So you are … an … an …”

“The word you were going to use encapsulates mere human scheming made into fun in the city of angels. Yes! However, I shall say that I am an ‘alien’, but you must realise that it can be very, very different for me. That there are innumerable forms of life that have been and will be. That, I can be here, among beings whose knowing is not at all that of humans, though they have the capacity to fly, to remain upon the sea bed, to be without form in what is to humans a vast space and which elicits behaviour in their perceiving of it. There are many aliens among you and their capacity to be of this life, whether for the first time or a replication of a human life lived, is beyond what I can explain to you, though its truth resides very distantly in what the scientists are saying. When I told you that I reached inside myself and brought back the journey here, this would amount to what you could not comprehend in terms of intentions and actions taken throughout passing of years. That happening did so without duration. It may be easier for you to think of my catching the children before they fell, remaining with them and that in my returning with them, no time had gone by.”

There came the sound of distant voices. I was in an utterly awestricken and smitten state, and I wanted to ask her why she was telling me this, but very curiously, I was afraid of what she might say. I felt as though I wanted to retreat, to have time to think, to consider, but I didn’t at the same time because she was holding me in her power. It was a holding like no other I had ever felt. This encounter was as no other ever had been. How on earth could it be?

“What am I?” she asked me. “You probably want to ask? When I appear as a woman. A woman coy in her demeanor, who is thirty-five years old and has the features of many you have seen before? I think that you will try and disregard what I have said and let it remain beyond what you are able to regard. I, a woman who is ……”

There were people approaching along the corridor and she responded to their presence by gripping my hand a little tighter. It was a delightful motion, as of a mother who reminds her birthed one that she has yet everything to give.

“All I ask is that you make light thoughts of what I have told you. Please do try. Regard me as a magician, if you wish. A magician, amidst those who barter information so to hold the capacity for war, beyond those here who would end it.”

“But……But who are you though? Can you tell me whether you have a lifetime, as others? A history?…. I’m not sure what I am asking.”

“Yes, I have. Now you are pondering how I can be what I said and have a ‘lifetime’ too. Yes?”

   “I’ll say that I was.”

“I have not the limitation that your evolution has  in its design. I can prove it to you and I shall, though forthwith I must leave you alone because they will be looking for me.”
