CALLASSA

.

That I glide upon a certain feeling I cannot tell.
No, because it would reveal a deep and all-consuming state,
the very heart of England.
We are here you see, in this place teeming with the never gone,
among the glimmering, the everlasting,
Imperial sentiment.
And while I look in her deep, dark eyes I say to myself;
.

How can she be so far removed from all that is,

but ultimately be of the same making? The answer

is that I cannot ever know, but she has the answer.

When I ask her, “What do you see? What do you see

my beauty?” She says to me, “I can see myself,

because what you are is a reflection of me.”

Beneath an English sky, I say,

beneath an English sky.

Yonder glimmering aberration, without mask,

without control. And so is she, an irreverent

piece of that sky. I am her savage desire.

A vulture she, with claws of lightning, sweeping within

our irresistible desire to live and to love.

All for the necessity of life.

The sky, the sky, forever and ever,

beneath an English sky.
