Benjamin Trilling is a young and newly qualified physician. Benjamin also shares his father’s calling in that he is very devout and in fact had almost followed in his father’s footsteps and become a clergyman of the Lutheran church. Scene: In the church at Maryminster, Benjamin is facing Lucifer, the invisible wraith has domiciled in the dead body of Amon. Benjamin, absolutely terrified, he is being held still, before the altar.

The church door began opening and closing, banging itself with such a force that the very church began trembling. A large object fell down and directly before Benjamin’s view. On moving his eyes, he saw that it was a dead swan, its neck had been tied in a knot.

There are scenes in this book that will bother and keep on bothering the most hardened person. I know from experience. To say further and equally, that it is a transcending love story, would be understatement.
