Adam and the Water

(Speckled Red upon Silver)

Adam Lawrence has been a successful Solicitor (Lawyer) in the City of London. He has been entranced by a Victorian painting that he owns depicting a woman with long, silver hair. An exotic, strange and beautiful woman, who makes him dream of the ocean and his yacht Xanthus. Her image helps Adam to forget about his fast ailing health and divorce.

There is a painting being auctioned by the same artist and subject. Its title is, ‘I shall never go away’. With a great determination to acquire the painting, Adam bids from aboard Xanthus. Upon winning he is met by what at first terrifies him, but very soon draws him completely into the most fantastic and desired experience of all.

Adam suspects that things are not altogether right, in fact that something is grossly amiss and once the questioning descends as does a raincloud, it becomes dispelled by the woman with silver hair.

Scene: Adam has arrived in Puerto Banus, on the Spanish Costa del Sol and his yacht Xanthus, moored thereupon.

Xanthus appeared to Adam as the debonair and the vibrating gossamer of a daughter’s summer smile. She fed his heart with the sweetness of Spanish peaches and the promise of his consummation with the later moonlight bronze upon her masts. The daughter of the Mediterranean was scrupulously groomed and an indomitably proud woman, her bearing exquisite. Adam was transfigured. He was in paradise among the nobler elements and their kisses upon his senses were as aspirations of the flowers scattered amidst the distant and iodine coloured haze. There were portraits of perpetual joy and these, the movements of sparse clouds and of the ocean waves, were moving toward this decadent and still, mid-afternoon silence. A silence where the only intruders had been his own footsteps and even these were upon her honeyed deck and her lilac colour, her tremulous responding to his returning to paradise from the blighted and the mutilated distant shores.

Excerpt Two

Into Adam’s awareness appeared a plume of precious recognition and this was sweeping as does a swallow sweeping in a silver sky. It was her soft and tender voice, “We were exhausted and we needed to relax because of our dancing and the cool, night air. Yes, my never-ending romance, it was so.”

Excerpt Three

“How could I ever be so fortunate?” he asked her and with much, much trepidation ….

“Soon you will know why,” was her response.

She was tracing circles around his eyes and very softly singing words and these words were lulling him upon the promontory of slumber. She was holding him elevated there, her voice and her moving him upon her breast acting as a powerful and gripping sedative.

“I am not going to allow you to sleep,” was her whisper. “No, no sleep yet.”
